While the episode is titled "Science Future," it is ironically the most "past-heavy" episode we have gotten since the first season. Through rapid-fire flashbacks, we finally glimpse the state of the world just before the petrification beam hit—not just in Japan, but globally.
Because this is the first episode of a multi-cour final season, it suffers slightly from "Setup Syndrome."
