This was the Whistler.

Kael’s throat tightened. Non-human. That wasn’t in the mission brief. The Whistler wasn’t a rogue state or a corporate splinter cell. It was something else. The chatter wasn’t military. It was biological —a coded heartbeat trying to hide inside white noise.

The amber pulse turned blood red.

Kael watched the waveforms fractalize across the main display. Version 11 didn’t see code as math. It saw code as language. Every cipher, no matter how alien or complex, had a rhythm—a subconscious signature left by its creator. Version 11 could hear the person behind the encryption.
