This fixed my DU-8A5LH after a bad Windows update. No external driver needed.
My PLDS DVD-RW DU-8A5LH shows Code 39 in Device Manager ("Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware"). I've run the hardware troubleshooter, SFC, and DISM. The drive works in BIOS and bootable USB Linux, so it's not dead.
