Light Yagami, a brilliant but bored high school student in Tokyo, discovers a supernatural notebook called the "Death Note." Its rules, explained by the Shinigami (death god) Ryuk, state: if a person’s name is written in it while picturing their face, they will die of a heart attack (or a specified cause/action). Light decides to use the notebook to kill criminals and become the god of a new, utopian world.
The 2006 Japanese live-action film Death Note (often called Death Note: The Movie or Death Note (2006) ) closely follows the first half of the original manga’s plot, with some changes. Here’s the story:
