First, the movie itself: Tim Curry as Long John Silver is absolute casting perfection. He’s menacing, charming, and somehow keeps up with a frog, a pig, and a bear. Gonzo as Charles Dickens? Rizzo the Rat as… himself? It shouldn’t work, but it does. The songs by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil (yes, that duo) are weirdly earnest and catchy. And let’s not forget the electric guitar during the final sword fight.
