When Stranded Deep first washed ashore on consoles, it felt like a miracle. Finally, PS4 and Xbox players could experience the same heart-pounding terror of spotting a dorsal fin circling their raft, or the quiet satisfaction of finally cracking open a coconut with a crude axe.

But let’s be honest: If you have been surviving on a console version, you aren’t really surviving. You are enduring .

You are the god of your own archipelago. The console version tells you how to survive. The PC version asks you how you want to survive. If you only have a PS5 or Xbox, Stranded Deep is still a solid 7/10 survival game. It’s fun, it’s tense, and you’ll get 40 hours out of it.

Consoles are stuck in 2015. PC is living in 2026. I love my Switch, but playing Stranded Deep on a handheld is like watching Jaws on a phone screen—you get the plot, but you miss the terror.
