The first day was a perfect example of her brattiness on full display. We had plans to go snorkeling in the morning, but my sister woke up late, complaining of a headache. Despite our early start, she insisted on taking a long, leisurely breakfast, much to the dismay of my parents. When it was finally time to leave, she realized she had forgotten her snorkeling gear, and of course, it was my responsibility to lend her mine.
The trip only got more eventful from there. On our second day, we decided to take a boat tour to a nearby island. My sister managed to get upset when the tour guide didn't answer her questions quickly enough, and she proceeded to whine loudly for the remainder of the tour. Even the beautiful scenery and fascinating historical facts couldn't penetrate her scowl.
From the moment we arrived at our beachside resort, my sister made it clear that this vacation would be on her terms. She demanded the front seat in the car, control of the music, and even dictated what we would eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
As I reflect on our summer vacation, I am reminded of the infamous phrase, "He who laughs last, laughs best." For my sister, notorious for her brat-like demeanor, seemed to embody that phrase throughout our entire trip.
However, on our final day, something unexpected happened. We were at the beach, and my sister decided she wanted to build sandcastles. She asked for my help, and as we worked together, I noticed a change in her demeanor. She was laughing and smiling, completely carefree. For a brief moment, her brattiness disappeared, and I saw a glimmer of the sister I actually liked.
As we packed up to leave the beach, my sister turned to me and said, "Thanks for being a good sport this vacation. I know I can be a brat sometimes." I was taken aback by her self-awareness and apology. It was a small moment, but it made me realize that even the most trying people can change and grow.
