In the last five years, Sri Lankan entertainment has undergone a seismic shift. Gone are the days when the only choices were a tele-drama on Rupavahini, a Sirasa thriller, or a Derana reality show. Enter the age of —a term I’m using to describe the fragmented, hyper-kinetic, digital-first entertainment landscape that is currently hijacking the attention span of Sri Lanka’s Gen Z and millennial suburban youth. Expect traditional media to cannibalize Jilhub’s style (we are already seeing Derana try "Reel-style" editing). But the real test is whether Jilhub creators will learn to tell a coherent story longer than 90 seconds. If they do, Sri Lankan pop media will enter a true golden age.
